The gender flip turns After the Wedding into a decent feminist statement, albeit one without the edge of the original.

See it. After the Wedding deals well with the complicated nature of regret in the adult world.

These two ferociously talented women are just too good to miss at any time and together they are a powerhouse. There's a lovely restraint here...

After the Wedding is one of those thoroughly inessential yet subtle and well-crafted films made for grown-ups who like sitting back and watching the inner turmoil of other grown-ups.

File under decent, but disappointing and start seeking out the excellent Danish original.

The polished version of Susanne Bier's 2006 film resolves itself too easily but the performances by Williams and Moore shouldn't be missed.

The Sad Rich White People Movie is one of my favourite genres, and indeed the white people in this English-language remake of Danish film-maker's Susanne Bier's 2006 tearjerker are very sad and very rich.

Director and writer Bart Freundlich lets the story breathe, trusting the actors to do the emotional heavy lifting.

I wanted to be swept along by the heft of it, and there are moments it could have happened, but in the end it was merely a waft.

Williams inhabits the role with great skill and the film is almost worth seeing just for her master class in quietly-simmering anxiety.

The plot's soap opera twists should jerk tears but director Bart Freundlich leaves you high and dry, as if too classy to admit his own film's silliness.

Moore again proves she is arguably the best American actress of her generation. As Theresa, she portrays a woman who has to reconfigure her life to accommodate a set of unexpected variables. It's a great performance at the heart of a mature, adult drama.

The message of "After the Wedding" lies in finding the answer within us. Only there lives the truth, no matter how far we are from our origin. [Full Review in Spanish]

It's difficult to dismiss it in its entirety as [Michelle] Williams and [Julianne] Moore are both stellar, elevating their characters beyond the simplistic outlines of their descriptions.

It's more melodrama than drama, plagued by a few too many twists, yet it remains a moving story about love, loss, adoption, and now, female empowerment.

We can't complain about Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams' performances... [but] thanks to the script, the story of these two women feels incomplete. [Full review in Spanish]

The brilliant cast helps to make everything more credible. [Full Review in Spanish]

Relaxing in that none of the drama lingers long without characters competently express their feelings and resolve their issues. Anti-drama.

Basically it's a soap opera performed by over-qualified actors. If you have a weakness for gasp-inducing melodrama, you'll like it. Otherwise you might appreciate the work of the performers.
