Big Trouble (2002)

Critic Consensus: With its large cast and frantic comic pacing, Big Trouble labors for slapstick-style hilarity, but it never really gains steam.

Critic Reviews for Big Trouble

All Critics (112) | Top Critics (33)

In this clumsy attempt to merge farce with satire, the jokes repeatedly miss the mark.

November 6, 2002 | Rating: 1.5/4 | Full Review…

Mostly ... Sonnenfeld mishandles the broad part of the comedic formula, preferring repetition to thematic development.

July 20, 2002 | Rating: 2/4 | Full Review…

Because the tone is so light, so genial and eager to please, the whole enterprise seems the opposite of prescient. It seems naive, almost delusional.

April 14, 2002 | Rating: 2/4 | Full Review…

Makes for distinctly uneasy viewing, as Big Trouble's massive subtext repeatedly threatens to overwhelm its haphazardly stylized diegesis.

April 9, 2002 | Full Review…

... Big Trouble produces only a very few small chuckles.

April 8, 2002

Like an overloaded aircraft at that security-challenged airport, Big Trouble moves forward in fits and starts but never manages to achieve sufficient momentum for a smooth, satisfying liftoff.

Audience Reviews for Big Trouble

A great line up of talent and Dave Barry's story about shenanigans in the U.S. capital of the Third World and yet ... fizzle, a firecracker that doesn't go off. Sonnenfield explains in the extras section that no one really committed, and that it rained a lot. Eh.

It was wild and crazy. Pretty funny but did get a little boring too.
