Mary Norton's children's books about the titular little bitty dwellers standing off villainous "human beans" receive a big screen adaptation as a frivolously family adventure movie.

Imaginative but unfunny and creepy in all of the wrong ways.

Average family fare, but it's kind of weird and I've never been crazy about it. (First viewing - Late childhood)

WOW.....WOW......WOW......WOW.....JUST SEEN THIS MOVIE 4 THE 1ST TIME N THINK THAT THIS IS SUCH AN ENJOYABLE MOVIE 2 WATCH......its got a good cast of actors/actresses throughout this movie......I think that john goodman, mark Williams (from the brilliant tv series the fast show, the harry potter movies), hugh laurie (from the brilliant tv series house), tom felton, play good roles/parts throughout this movie......I think that the director of this sci-fi/fantasy/kids/family movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie......WARNING YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THE END OF THE CREDITS THROGHOUT THIS MOVIE AS SOMETHING HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE CREDITS THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE.......WARNING SOME SCENES IN THIS MOVIE CONTAIN STROBE LIGHTNING EFFECTS THROUGHOUT SOME SCENES THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE.....

Reception

The film received generally positive reviews upon its release. Rotten Tomatoes gave 73% of positive reviews. The Guardian has described the film as "A spirited screen version of the Mary Norton stories about the tiny folk who live under the floorboards, and off human scraps. Jim Broadbent and Celia Imrie are a joy as the parents of little Arrietty..." Roger Ebert in his review described the film, in the wake of numerous television adaptations, as a "big-screen, big-budget version with special effects so amusing it's like Toy Story has come to life...the charm comes in the way The Borrowers makes its world look like a timeless story book. If the action and the physical humour are designed to appeal to kids, the look of the film will impress adults who know what to look for."

I think that

Jim Broadbent - Pod Clock
Celia Imrie - Homily Clock
Flora Newbigin - Arrietty Clock
Tom Felton - Peagreen Clock

were absolutely brilliant throughout this movie as the borrowers throughout this movie....I think that this is such an enjoyable childrens/family movie 2 watch, its got such a great cast throughout this movie.......

This movie was funny, especially the villain Ocious P Potter and how he got himself into a messy situation in his attempt to steal the Lender's property in an attempt to take over the city.

The Borrowers was definitely an interesting movie with an interesting concept to boot. In the real world when things disappear, maybe there are actually little people around that go borrow things and replace them on a later date. This is where the idea of the borrowers comes in. John Goodman is one of the main reasons to watch this movie, he tries to become the villain but John Goodman is just to nice. It really is a great family movie that the whole family will enjoy especially the kids. It has a great message within the whole premise of the movie and the special effects along with the illusion of everyone being small is done quite well. For me this movie was nostalgic of the nineties. I can actually recall some moments where I actually laughed out loud and couldn't help but chuckle at a good number of the scenes. It really is an enjoyable movie, although I feel kids today may not enjoy it as much. Definitely up there with the bringing of nostalgia. So if you're a fan of the book or even a fan of the nineties than chances are you will enjoy this one. A great time, and something that one can really enjoy. I recommend this movie for a family, the kids will really enjoy it.

It was a good film but I feel it does not compare to any of the Disney movies or any Harry Potter movie. The storyline was great but the cinematography wasn't very good. The best part of the whole movie was the little Tom Felton. He is an amazing actor and that is why I say it is a good film to see, but there are definitely better ones out there. Especially if you want to see more of Tom Felton, I would recommend the Harry Potter films. The funny thing is, he doesn't even think he wants acting for a career. He is more of a fisherman. Go figure. Anyway, The Borrowers is an older movie now and the Special Effects really don't stand up to other movies now. Unfortunately it was a good movie when it came out but now I may think otherwise. I give The Borrowers 7/10 stars.
