A New Zealand cinema mainstay who emigrated from England in 1952, Davina Whitehouse performed alongside such film legends as John Gielgud and Clark Gable in the course of her lucrative career. A star of London theater in her early years who made her film debut in 1931's Night Nurse, it was in New Zealand where Whitehouse truly established herself onscreen. Roles in such made-for-television movies as 1977's The Night Nurse lead into a successful career in television, and throughout the 1980s she could be seen in such series as Prisoner. In 1992 Whitehouse would appear as a mystical grandmother warning young lovers of imminent danger in future Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson's Dead Alive. Following a series of strokes, Davina Whitehouse died in Aukland, New Zealand, on December 25, 2002.
