After two years in the U.S. Army, he worked for his father's car dealership. Brought the bankrupt Seattle Pilots to Milwaukee in 1970. In 1987, cofounded the Child Abuse Prevention Fund with the Children's Hospital and Health System of Wisconsin. In 1992, he became Major League Baseball's acting commissioner; he was named official commissioner in 1998. Was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. Serves on board of directors for the NFL's Green Bay Packers and on the advisory committee for the Israel Baseball League.
